Lakefield Animal Welfare Society is currently implementing a new adoption process to comply with COVID-19 regulations to ensure the health and safety of staff, adopters, and animals.
The Adoption process at LAWS consists of 4 steps:
Step 1 – Adoption Application
When you have found a dog you are interested in adopting, please complete the Dog Adoption Application Form. This application helps our staff see if your lifestyle and expectations are a good match with the individual dog.
Step 2 – Potential Adopter Selection
Once we have reviewed the application submissions, an Adoption Coordinator will reach out to a number of potential applicants that are a good fit. You may be asked some more questions and be provided with further information on the dog.
Step 3 – Meet-n-Greet
The selected applicants will be scheduled to have an onsite meet-n-greet with the dog. As per our Covid policies, only 2 visitors may visit the dog. Proper PPE is required, along with our hand washing and sanitizing procedures which will be communicated again to you when you arrive. Instructions for entry to the shelter are posted on our front doors.
Step 4 – Finalizing the Adoption
From the potential adopters one will be selected and if both the Adoption Coordinator and the adopter feel that the animal is a good match we will arrange the payment, pick-up, and continuing care for your new dog companion. If the potential adopter retracts their application the next person will be contacted.
